Mayor Daley a Fan of Carrotmob Chicago
Who could resist an opportunity at a Mayor Daley press conference yesterday to tell him about Carrotmob Chicago? He liked the idea and, passing an informational Carrot Card to Chief Environmental Officer Sadhu Johnston, said he’d like to talk more about it! Environment Commissioner Suzanne Malec-McKenna got excited about the idea, too, noting the August 9th mob date in her Blackberry on the spot. She also said she’d include the event in her newsletter this week. It’s great to have support in high places!

Mayor Daley is a fan of anything that will get him large numbers of supporters on the pretense that he approves of and champions their cause. Of course I’m not saying that in his heart of hearts he doesn’t believe in what you’re doing. He might. All’s I’m saying is: don’t be a cheap mark when it comes to your political loyalties.
Anna, you’re definitely right that every government has the right and responsibility to adhere to the interests of its constituents. No solution to climate change is quick, but aligning with leaders who make decisions *today* is an essential component to creating and maintaining a movement that will change the world for good.
Noone is perfect–mayors included. Mayor Daley is doing what needs to be done to make the City of Chicago one of the best cities to live in. Look at all the wonderful programming–the Taste of Chicago, the numerous festivals and public films–the city of Chicago has.
Let’s think of solutions rather than problems! We can only start to address these serious issues together, Anna!
Best wishes,
Erica
